Augmentarium

Portal 2 has issues with Intel GMA chipsets and it results in game crashes and errors.

But it is possible to play the game, it runs great on 4500mhd.

Just follow next tips and tricks and you'll be enjoying one great game in just a minute.

On Auto Settings (which look great)

7-28 FPS (depends on how big room is, only in big rooms you can feel FPS fall around 7-9)

On lowest settings

20-35 FPS (runs smooth and with no problem at all)

Crash fixing

There are different methods and different problems, but usually they have same fix!

My problem was crashing after loading, game would go all black, sound stuttering, display drivers not working anymore.

check down for better FIX #2 instead of using FIX #1

FIX #1

Right-click game shortcut and select Properties

Select Shortcut tab

In Target add on the end -autoconfig

With my shortcut it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Valve\Portal 2\portal2.exe" -autoconfig

Select Compatibility tab and under Privilege Level enable Run this program as an administrator

Press OK

Now you can play game using this shortcut, drag and drop this shortcut into Game Booster to use this settings with it.

Only "problem" is that game starts in automatic configuration, so all settings are set to medium or high and if you want to lower them you need to do that every time you start game.

FIX #2

Use this fix, it is better than first fix.

Right-click game shortcut and select Properties

Select Shortcut tab

In Target add on the end

-autoconfig -w 640 -h 480 -mem_level 2 -gpu_mem_level 0 -gpu_level 0 -cpu_level 0 -mat_queue_mode -1 -mat_vsync 0 -mat_forceaniso 0 -mat_antialias 1

If you want it windowed and without border add these too:

-windowed -noborder

With my shortcut it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Valve\Portal 2\portal2.exe" -autoconfig -w 640 -h 480 -mem_level 2 -gpu_mem_level 0 -gpu_level 0 -cpu_level 0 -mat_queue_mode -1 -mat_vsync 0 -mat_forceaniso 0 -mat_antialias 1 (-windowed -noborder)

Select Compatibility tab and under Privilege Level enable Run this program as an administrator

Press OK

Now you can skip third step, play game with this shortcut.

You can change those options as you like or just play game with optimal options

and just add to target -autoconfig

3. Game settings

Game runs ok in autoconfig settings but these are best for max FPS:

Resolution 640x480

Anti-aliasing Mode None

Filtering Mode Bilinear

Wait For Vertical Sync Disabled

Multicore Rendering Enable (or Disable if you have only one-core CPU)

Shader Detail Low

Effect Detail Low

Model / Texture Detail Low

Paged Pool Memory Available High (Yes set it to High)

And you are done, go play game.
